Cam Mums create stunning mosaic for Sculpture Trail!

Twinberrow Sculpture Trail in Dursley woods has now got a beautiful new piece for people to view.

A group of Cam Mum’s led by Emma Scott and Stacey Dent-Beeston began working on the project through a scheme started by Create Gloucestershire, and Dursley Library as part of the Art for Libraries initiative.

The local mums identified that there wasn’t much provision locally for affordable craft groups that their children could access. With Art of Libraries help they were able to use the meeting room above the library and get materials from Gloucester Scrapstore. This enabled them to run sessions in the school holidays.

This was so successful they decided to make something permanent – a mosaic for the whole community to enjoy! Supported by The Lions Club, Cam Parochial Charity and Cam and Dursley Creatives they were able to employ Berkeley based mosaic company Tomato Jacks to teach them and the children to make the library/book themed piece.

The children involved just loved learning a new skill. They were taught how to translate drawings into a mosaic design

‘We really enjoyed making the mosaic as it was fun and creative. We loved cutting the tiles and in particular choosing the flower petals and putting colours together to bring to life the hare and the fox. We did this with our friends and met new people too!’

Abi Nicol, Cam and Dursley’s Creative Catalyst is thrilled with the final outcome.

‘The mosaic is simply beautiful and looks incredible up in the woods, I encourage everyone to go up and enjoy the artworks installed around the trail, especially now that Spring is here! It would be lovely to see more community groups taking part and making lasting pieces for us all to enjoy.’
