Joint approach to cultural apprenticeships

Manifesto pledges: 7 and 4

Snapshot: Create Gloucestershire secured investment of over £100,000 from the Creative Employment Programme to create 40 employment opportunities in the cultural sector for 18-24 year olds. This enabled us to support talented young people with ambition and experience, to create the sector of tomorrow in Gloucestershire. The Summerfield Trust and Ambition Giving supported a new branch of the project; creating placements for young people facing the greatest barriers to work  and enabling sole traders and rural creative businesses to take on a young person for the first time.

Priorities:  Ensure equitable routes into creative employment across the county, and help develop a talented workforce to sustain the cultural sector.

Where we are now: 40 young people have taken part in paid internships and apprenticeships through a consortium of 21 employers. Many employers were SME's and would not have take on a young person in their own right.  30 young people have completed their placements so far, with 21 being offered contracts with their current employer or have taken further training or internships.

Coming up: Create Gloucestershire has an on-going commitment to demystify and simplify the pathways for young people into the creative industries.  We are keen to continue the conversation about new ways of working together to improve these choices and opportunitiesespecially those under-represented in the cultural sector.  If you are interested in  working with us on this strand of work, please contact Louise at Create Gloucestershire by email: louise@creategloucestershire.co.uk
