CULTURAL COMMISSIONING PILOT

Gloucestershire is one of two national pilots exploring how public sector commissioning of arts and culture may be developed to contribute to a wide range of social, health and well-being outcomes. Click here for more information on the national programme

The Gloucestershire pilot is looking at how professionals in the arts and culture sector and the NHS could work together, and at ways art and culture could be sustainably commissioned so that they can play an integral part in supporting good health and well-being in local communities.

The pilot is focused specifically on the three localities of Gloucester City, Tewkesbury and Forest of Dean. It is supported by Gloucestershire VCS Alliance, and led by a partnership of the following organisations:

  • NHS Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)
  • CREATE Gloucestershire
  • Forest of Dean District Council
  • Gloucester City Council
  • Tewkesbury Borough Council

Create Gloucestershire is working closely with VCS Alliance to jointly support the VCSE arts and culture orgs in the county, including through the Arts and Culture Forum co-facilitated by Pippa Jones and Matt Lennard.

GRANT PROGRAMME

The CCG's new small-scale grant programme is now open to members with a VCSE structure.

As part of the pilot, the CCG have opened a small scale-grant programme to run from October 2015 to November 2016. The CCG are inviting applications from arts and culture organisations from the VCSE sector, to deliver a range of health and wellbeing related projects ranging from awareness raising, through to co-delivering arts and culture activities with health practitioners for people with specific health conditions. This is an exciting opportunity to explore how arts and culture can have positive health and well-being benefits for people living with a range of health conditions

The grant programme is designed to be flexible and is open to innovative proposals. The programme is underpinned by principles of co-production and collaboration, with the aim of creating an opportunity where the arts & culture and health sectors can come together to shape project design, implementation and evaluation. This will be a new area of opportunity for some organisations, and co-ordinated support with the application process is available to all interested applicants from both the CCG and their partner CREATE Gloucestershire, by emailing GLCCG.CulturalCommissioning@nhs.net

Jocelyn Cunningham (Other Ways of Working), whom some of you may know as a collaborator on our Local Cultural Education programme, has joined the team to help ensure the success of this project, bringing a wealth of knowledge in cultural commissioning form her work in Peterborough and Wiltshire. She will be providing additional support and advice, and you can contact her with your queries via email.
