Stroud Film Festival 4th - 20th March 2016

Following the success of the very first festival last March, Stroud Film Festival takes place again at venues throughout the town, on 4th-20th March, 2016. It's a two-week celebration of cinema, bringing new opportunities for the whole community to enjoy a wide range of films.

Five local organisations committed to film have come together to organise the festival programme, from features, animations and documentaries, to short videos produced by local filmmakers and experimental films. Special events, including family screenings, live music and talks by local filmmakers, will run alongside the programme of feature films.

All the big screens in the town which regularly show film will be involved – VUE Cinema, Lansdown Hall, Stroud Valleys Artspace, Brunel Goods Shed, and Open House. This year films will also be screened at The Subscription Rooms, as well as at less traditional 'cinemas', including the Crown and Sceptre, Star Anise café, The Prince Albert and Atelier...

The programme is still growing, but likely feature films include the recent production of Macbeth, Amy - the Amy Winehouse documentary and the classic John Lennon film Imagine. The highly acclaimed Benda Bilili about a group of musicians in the Congo is on the programme alongside award winning documentary Salt of the Earth. The superb children’s animation, Cat in Paris will be one of a number of screenings for families, including Night in the Museum which is followed by a chance to get close to some exhibits from our own Museum in the Park. A number of the films are connected with music and creativity, so locally produced films are on the programme, along with events where filmmakers show their work.

The Festival is being generously supported by Stroud Town Council, and is wholly run by volunteers. We are keen to encourage the local community to help promote and support Stroud’s own Film Festival.
