Cake

Networking, it seems, means cake:
dirt-brown chocolate;
fruit cake, speckled as an unwiped work surface;
lemon drizzle, citrus edge strangled by sugar.
Trays of cake, cobbled into small squares
that hardly anyone eats,
if they are talking.

Networking, it seems, can measure its success
in square inches of remaindered sweetness,
because we can’t have our cake
and talk it.
