REVEAL Project Assistant - The Jenner Trust, Berkeley, Gloucestershire
Post: REVEAL Project Assistant
Salary: £17,000 per annum pro rata (15 hours per week, six-month fixed contract)
Location: Dr Jenner’s House, Museum & Garden, Berkeley, Gloucestershire
Closing Date: 9am 27th February 2017
Interview Date: 3rd March 2017
Overview and Background
Dr Jenner’s House, Museum & Garden is situated in the historic market town of Berkeley, at The Chantry, a striking Grade II* listed house where Edward Jenner lived for 38 years until his death in 1823. This is the house from which he pioneered vaccination against smallpox and it is now a museum celebrating his life and legacy. The museum is operated by The Jenner Trust with a small staff and team of volunteers.
The Realising Education Through Virtual Environments and Augmented Locations (REVEAL) Project is a two-year Horizon 2020 Research Project funded by the European Union applying VR technologies to education, with partners in the UK, Netherlands, Italy and Malta. The Project Assistant will assist the Museum Manager in research to support the development of a VR ‘environmental narrative’ based around the appearance of The Chantry in the 1700s.
We are looking for an individual with a track record of carrying out research in a museum, archive or similar setting, with excellent communication skills and a high level of motivation. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate organisational and planning skills and be able to work closely with others to realise deadlines. Ideally, you will have a good understanding of Eighteenth Century British history. As REVEAL Project Assistant you will be directly responsible to the Museum Manager.
Due to limited public transport provision in Berkeley, we anticipate that the post holder will require a full driving licence and access to their own vehicle. The post holder will also need to be prepared to travel within Gloucestershire and sometimes further afield.
