Jill Shonk

As Head of Cultural & Trading Services at Gloucester City Council, I am privileged to be working with superb staff, proficient partners and committed communities to help Gloucester Culture Trust deliver an ambitious Culture Strategy.  I’ve been in post since October 2017 and my role is a new one, reflecting the Council’s commitment to putting culture at the heart of Gloucester.  Together, we’re excited to be making this historic city a better place to live, work and play – one with a distinctive cultural offer that clearly focuses on young people.

I have always been interested in the arts, particularly their potential to make a difference to people’s lives and to interpret things. Professionally, my background is in teaching (Design and Business Studies) and heritage (amongst other things,  working with artists to develop public programmes at the Museum in the Park, Stroud and at Gloucestershire Archives).
