James Green Contemporary Art

James Green Contemporary Art

James Green (British, b. 1989) paints indulgent, abstract images that critique (rather than celebrate) a system that favours the fortunate and neglects the less-so. Rooted in a balance somewhere between fine art tradition and contemporary practice, his paintings often include obscured faces, within compositions somewhat resemblant of a visual fist fight between Francis Bacon and Jean Michel Basquiat. The works reject hierarchy and revel in their physicality, showcasing a thick impasto and bold colour to challenge the notion of beauty in art. The artist ‘trained’ at Cardiff School of Art, although insists he is entirely self-taught. James has gained international attention via inclusion in important group exhibitions from London to Sydney. His current body of work ‘Self portrait of somebody else’ is gaining impressive recognition.
