Art. Not what I expected - get involved!

Art. Not what I expected is the first joint  initiative run by the arts and cultural sector in Stroud. By working  together our aim is to get more people talking about arts and culture  and increase the numbers of people enjoying the wide range of events,  venues and festivals in the region.

Stroud  has been selected as the pilot project area because of its active arts  and cultural community - following the pilot project in Stroud, Create  Gloucestershire intends to roll the campaign out across  Gloucestershire.

Create Gloucestershire is coordinating a  programme of campaign events that show art and culture in a different  light, and connect with people who might think art is not for them.  These events will happen up from now until to July 2013, programmed by groups  including Prema, Stroud Valley Artspace, Art Couture Painswick, Museum  in the Park, Hawkwood, Stroud Subscription Rooms, TomatoJack Arts and  South Gloucestershire and Stroud College.

Activities include:

  • A flash knit mob picnic at Stratford Park Leisure Centre on Sunday 16th June with yarn bombing and other knitting activities for the experienced to the total beginner - the culmination of a week of crafty pleasures including 'knitting for the terrified', and 'needle felted flocks' for families! Download a full programme here.
  • ‘The Miniature Museum of Memories’ at the Museum in the Park inspired by water in its many shapes and  forms - a chance to bring memories, images or an artefact relating to  our rivers and streams.
  • Museum guerrilla drop-ins at some local surgeries – asking people to guess what the artefacts are and tell their stories in response.
  • Seed Festival on 6th July at Hawkwood, introducing creativity into ecology and encouraging people to plant big ideas.
