Strike A Light Festival launches in Gloucester

Amazing new theatre and performance to light up our city and kindle the best local talent.

21st September – 27th September 2013Blackfriars, Gloucester.

This September, Strike a Light, a new festival of theatre and performance in partnership with Create Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire City Council and internationally acclaimed theatre producers at Battersea Arts Centre is happening in Gloucester. Showcasing three signature productions from Battersea Arts Centre alongside a host of homegrown talent, the partnership is aimed at developing new ways of touring and presenting theatre.

Strike a Light will be predominantly based in Blackfriars in the heart of the City, Blackfriars is a stunning example of a 13th century medieval Priory site, nestled at the heart of the waterside in Gloucester. The festival will bring internationally acclaimed contemporary theatre, placing it in one of Gloucester's most historic and beautiful sites and ensure that it is accessible and exciting for all.

The shows are brilliant and unique and we want to create a buzz around the work. There will be food at each event, a chance to meet friends, make friends, have a drink, talk about the work and be part of a shared experience.

This festival will not just be about bringing great work to Gloucester but also giving emerging artists from the region a platform from which to perform. The professional support available will provide a springboard for those interested in pursuing careers in the Arts and we are committed to offering opportunities to local young people, working with them, and developing their skills as producers, performers and programmers.

The Strike A Light team will ensure that this festival brings real benefits to Gloucester and puts it firmly on the map as an exciting city with a cultural life to be proud of.They would like to hear from you if you want to get involved; they need volunteers, performers, cooks, technicians, ambassadors, cups of tea makers, cake bakers, dress makers, photographers, artists, musicians, talkers, dreamers, doers, movers and shakers, and they want to work with you to make this festival great.

Strike a Light will kick off on the 21st September with a feast, there will be music, entertainment, and a ceremonial fire at Blackfriars. If you would like to join us for the launch of our festival do get in touch. They have invitations for 100 local people and would love to see you there.
