CG welcome Arts Council CEO, Darren Henley, to Gloucestershire
Create Glos were delighted to welcome Arts Council CEO, Darren Henley, to Gloucestershire on 26th and 27th April 2016. Darren was joined by ACE South West Chair, Sheila Healey, SW Area Director Phil Gibby, Head of Philanthropy Clare Titley and Relationship Manager, Faye Stewart.
The two day visit kicked off with lunch at Prema providing a chance for for a range of people to meet Darren and offer up a "snap shot" into life in the arts and cultural sector across Gloucestershire.
It was a great opportunity to describe the collective work that CG has been involved over the last few years. Several members outlined the benefits of working in a more joined up way, including the £1 million investment secured through CG partnerships to grow the sector and develop talent.
We were delighted that four of our creative apprentices, placed within cultural organisations across the county, could join us as "live examples" of the added value working together can bring.
The key note message from Darren Henley assured delegates that Arts Council are committed to addressing the rebalance of funds outside of London to ensure the sector can thrive. As a practical example of this commitment, Darren has pledged to spend a third of his working week outside of the capital since being in post just over a year ago. A pledge he has so far been able to keep.
Darren went from Prema to visit several key arts and cultural players in Gloucestershire as well as key partners in the NHS who are funding the Cultural Commissioning work CG is piloting.
The final report was published the day before the visit and can be downloaded here.
CG is thrilled that for the front cover it commissioned local artist, Joe Magee, to create an image to represent cultural commissioning.
