Time and Space to learn for artists in Glos
Discoveries allow new perspectives to appear ….to have this space is quite rare and I wanted to take full advantage of it” (Action Learning participant)
Facilitated by Joanna Ridout, part of Action Learning Centre a group of independent artists and producers who live and work in Gloucestershire have just completed the second Action Learning set with Create Gloucestershire.
Action learning is an inspiring approach to professional development that offers a small group of peers a structured and reflective way to explore the issues they face. You can read more here.
Participants in the recent learning set shared how valuable it has been to talk, have time to consider issues more deeply and feel part of an artist community. As well as a shift in thinking and increase in confidence for many of the artists, it has resulted in developing artistic practice, from taking on a new studio, forming a new artist collective and challenging work and practice.
“there was a nice feeling of support and someone to share your journey with” (Action Learning participant)
“it’s a unique space to talk about what I care about. I don’t get to talk about these matters elsewhere…. I find it hard to verbalise what I’m thinking…… It offers an interesting space – with no pressure to come up with a solution”. (Action Learning participant)
This AL co-hort is committed to carrying on as a group and using each other with structured space and time to solve current professional and artistic challenges.
Pippa Jones, Director of Create Gloucestershire says: “CG wants to grow a pool of extraordinary and diverse artists and independent producers in Gloucestershire. We think action learning sets are a great way to support and develop practice and to make new connections and relationships with others working in the sector".
In the future we will offer more action learning sets so if you are interested in hearing about these opportunities make sure you have signed up to our mailing list.
