Opportunity for Heritage and Community Consultant - Stroud Congregational Church
Stroud Congregational Church has been awarded Heritage Lottery Funding to work with a Heritage and Community Consultant to help develop a strategic programme of engagement activities around this hidden gem in the centre of Stroud.
It is a Grade II* listed building with ionic columns and a circular rotunda for direct access off Bedford Street to the Chapel at first floor. The ground floor is used as community space and has recently been renovated to include new WC and kitchen facilities. The original semi-circular headed windows and rotunda are now in need of urgent repairs to halt further deterioration of the building.
This project will undertake urgent repairs and works to the building, so ensuring its future, In doing so, we would seek to broaden our engagement with the wider community on a day to day basis, raising awareness of varied additional uses for the building, both educationally and recreationally. The church is already used for concerts and would be used for talks and historic tours. The project would be the catalyst to update the website, interpretation boards and visual exhibits at the church.
- Strategic planning to establish process of selecting, engaging, training, managing and rewarding area volunteers to oversee and promote community activities.
- Design and provide detailed costings for a programme of engagement activities to form part of the submission for round two applications, and to be delivered during the delivery phase, if we are successful in the round two application to HLF.
- Community consultation to identify needs and/or opportunities in the wider community for increased numbers and improved engagement with the heritage of the building.
- Liaising with graphic design and IT professionals and the PCC regarding presentation of interpretation boards, leaflets, guide book, website etc.
