In early May Dursley Craft Market hosted a group of talented young people who launched a range of products for the first time. They have been attending a weekly class at The Quarry Chapel, Cam where they were taught a range of craft skills and approaches to making products with the view to sell.

20 local GCSE and A’Level students from Rednock and KLB schools in Cam & Dursley will be showcasing experimental pieces during Tyndale Arts Week. They created the work during a nine week programme called ‘Love Art? Create your Future! run by artist and educator Abi Nicol.

In March 2019, Gloucester Culture Trust launched the Creative Leadership Trainee Programme. The aim: to nurture the future creative leaders of today.
The programme has created four full-time, year-long jobs within four of Gloucester’s creative organisations, all of which are fully funded by the Creative Entrepreneurs strand of the city’s Great Place project. This area of our work, which we call JOLT, is about creating opportunities and a supportive space which enables people to work and make a living in the creatives industries, right here in Gloucester.

Create Gloucestershire was fortunate to be involved in an life changing initiative, the Creative Employment Programme which supported 40 young people as paid interns and apprentices in 20 different creative organisations/SME’s in taking their first step into working in the creative sector. Of those 40 young people, over half of them were kept on by their employer or moved on to further study.

Victoria was the Marketing, Publicity and Social Media intern at Hawkwood College and was responsible for increasing Hawkwood’s web presence including social media alongside assisting with general marketing duties. After completing a Masters degree in London, she was looking for an opportunity to gain work experience in the South West. This internship provided a great opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience in a creative industry.

Since finishing her internship, she has spent 6 months as a Collections Assistant at The Devil’s Porridge Museum near Dumfries, and a year as an Assistant Registrar with the National Railway Museum. She is currently on a years’ contract work with the National Museum Scotland in Edinburgh as an Assistant Registrar.
