THEATRE WORKSHOP by Chloe Owen

This workshop will be looking at a few photographs taken by Dorothy Wilding. These photographs will be looked at through a theatre lens and will be our stimuli in creating new pieces of performance. We will be using skills such as storytelling, improvisation, creativity, dialogue making, Freeze Frames and Thought tracking of characters.

We will get into groups and closely look at pictures given. We will talk about the characters in these photographs and creatively discuss the background of these characters. Who are they? Where so they live? Do they have family? Etc.

Using freeze frames as a theatre technique, we will then create a version of each photograph and present them with a background music.

After this, we will discuss the characters and the moments before the photograph was taken. Were they happy? Did they just receive bad news? Etc. (The creativity is endless). Then we will discuss in groups what happens after the photograph was taken. What is their future like?

The end product of this workshop is to have a greater understanding of how to create a piece of theatre with Dorothy Wilding's photographs as a stimulus. This is just for fun, to show what a photograph can inspire!

Participants who haven't got previous experience in theatre are welcome. Please come in comfortable clothing for the workshop, just so that you can move around freely.
