FREE studios. Apply within.

Our studios are offered FREE to artists/makers who are at a pivotal point in their creative career. The workspaces are offered on an 18-month contract with all costs (heating, lighting etc) included. By offering spaces free of charge, we hope that our resident artists are able to really focus their time and creative energy on developing their studio practice and business.

We are seeking detailed expressions of interest from artists. To apply, please send:

  • a detailed CV about your creative work

  • a selection of images of your work

  • your artists’ statement

  • a proposal for how you might use the space during your 18 months of being with us.

We’re especially keen to hear from makers just starting out on their creative journeys as well as those who need some time and resources to perhaps explore a change of direction.

Send it all to hello@prema.org.uk and mark your application LARGE STUDIO or SMALL STUDIO (respectively). We really look forward to hearing from you!

THE LARGE STUDIO:

The larger, ground-floor studio measures 3.65m x 2.8m (that’s 110 sq ft in old money) and would suit an artist working across most disciplines. Although the space has no running water, there’s a sink and hot/cold running water just 10 paces away from the studio door. The space has a radiator, meaning that it’s splendidly toasty on wintry days and a sash window which can be opened wide in the summer to allow plenty of natural ventilation into the studio. The room faces north-east and has a wonderful natural light throughout the day. Closing date for applications: Friday 14 February 2025.

THE SMALL STUDIO:

The space measures 4m x 1.6m (69 sq ft) and would ideally suit an artist working digitally or on smaller, discrete projects such as a jewellery, illustration, needle felting, textiles etc.  The smaller studio has the added benefit of a double sink and hot & cold running water. The space has a radiator to keep it toasty in winter and a sash window to allow for natural ventilation in the summer. The studio faces north-west and has a gentle, warm light throughout the day.

Closing date for applications: Friday 21 February 2025

Following the closing dates for submissions, interviews will take place in early March. We anticipate that the artist will commence their residency in May 2025 and would expect that the maker would be working on-site at least 3-4 days every week.

Please forward this on to any artists you think may be interested in this remarkable opportunity.
