The Weight of Water Performance

The Weight of Water from Panama Pictures

A giant floating staircase on water. Six fearless performers. One very real risk of falling in.

Brought to you in Gloucester by Strike a Light:

A giant white staircase floats on the water at Gloucester Docks. Six performers climb on. Every move makes it tilt. If one performer moves to one side, the entire stairway shifts and the rest must react to avoid slipping and falling into the water.

This gripping show mixes dance, circus and live music. Two musicians play from a nearby floating stage, using voice, trumpet, guitar, synth, and samples of politicians’ empty promises about the climate crises.

The Weight of Water is an exciting and relevant performance. It explores the struggle for power, while showing our dependence – both on each other, and on much larger elements outside of our control.
