Gloucestershire Family Festival 2026

This October half term, families are invited to embark on a magical adventure across Gloucestershire. Armed with a Dragon Keeper Logbook, you'll follow clues, uncover hidden secrets, meet magical characters and explore your local community as you train to become an Apprentice Dragon Keeper. Along the way, you'll discover stories, activities and surprises that will help you solve the mystery of the lost dragon.

Dates: Saturday 24th October - Sunday 1 November

Libraries taking part: Dursley, Matson, Hesters Way, Oakley and Cinderford

To begin your apprenticeship, collect a FREE Dragon Keeper Logbook from a participating library or selected community partner location.

The logbook will guide families through the adventure, helping them record clues, unlock parts of the story and complete their training as Apprentice Dragon Keepers. As part of their apprenticeship, families will visit a series of trail stops where they'll discover hidden clues, take part in activities and meet some of the people, places and organisations that make Gloucestershire special.

Families can take part at their own pace throughout the half-term break, making it easy to fit the adventure around family life.

The trail is being developed with accessibility at its heart, with digital, audio and visual elements helping families engage with the experience in different ways. We're working with local communities and partners across Gloucestershire to ensure the experience is welcoming, inclusive and accessible for all families.

Whether you're a regular library visitor or discovering us for the first time, everyone is welcome to become an Apprentice Dragon Keeper.
