Elwes Gallery is a curated exhibition space at the centre of the University of Gloucestershire's Park Campus that intends to create dialogue between the past and future of visual arts practice. The gallery builds on the success of the university’s Hardwick Gallery, which was a keystone organisation in the regional contemporary arts ecology.
Organised by director Sarah Bowden, Elwes Gallery gathers communities around an exchange of knowledge, ideas and experience with contributions from artists, students, and guest curators, cross-pollinating grassroots activity with international collaborations to produce an interdisciplinary, social and discursive programme of exhibitions, events, residencies and symposia.

We bring contemporary and socially-engaged arts opportunities to Gloucester!
GAS Projects (GASP!) formed in January 2022, when artist Soozy Roberts and creative producer Hannah Thomson began working together at the Ewe Space in Matson, Gloucester. After working for some time as individuals on projects in Gloucester, we identified a lack of capacity amongst existing organisations in Gloucester to deliver community-engaged visual arts provision.
We decided to join forces to maximise our capacity and support each other to realise more ambitious and sustainable projects for the people of Gloucester, with talent development at the core of our work.
Our first project GASP@EWE ran from January to May 2022, to test-run working as a new organisation. We then incorporated as a Community Interest Company (CIC), and started to envision how GAS Projects could meet the needs of the community while also growing the contemporary visual art provision in the city.
Our ethos and way of working grew out of that beginning, by identifying a gap or lack of provision that might be missing within a community, and developing an opportunity to creatively work with others to shape that gap.
We work responsively by constantly evaluating what is needed and spending time to hear the voices in the community. Responding in this organic and adaptable way helps us to fully connect with the communities, organisations and individuals that we work with, in order to make Gloucester a more creative and cultural city.

Contemporary gallery and museum in Nailsworth, dedicated to women in
photography. We have a vibrant space for exhibitions and events that
prompt important conversations and inspire action.
We take world-class art out of the white cube and make it accessible to
all. Admission to all exhibitions and participation in projects is free.
Leading women photographers (the Heroines) challenge how we see the
world. They push artistic boundaries and highlight issues of social
injustice. Using their work (objects and images in our collection) as a
starting point, we facilitate projects and provide a space for people to
come together for shared creative experiences. This is particularly
empowering for young women.
We also run a Youth Programme in partnership with Canon.

Stroud's Own Theatre and home to the Cotswold Players, the Cotswold Playhouse presents around 15 shows a year from both the Players and from visiting companies. From classics to musicals, drama to pantomime, we increasingly take our productions out into the community: we have recently performed at the Stroud Theatre Festival, the Stroud Shakespeare Festival, St Laurence's Church and Stroud Brewery.
As well as a modern, fully equipped stage and auditorium, our theatre offers multiple changing rooms, storage for our set, costumes and props, a welcoming bar and lounge, and even a dance studio. We also make the facilities available to visiting companies, schools, dance classes, toddler groups and many more.
Everything is run by volunteers, so we are always keen to welcome new members, on stage or backstage! We may be unpaid, but we aspire to professional standards in everything we do. Why not join us? We can offer you fun, friendship and the chance to be involved in all aspects of theatre, in a relaxed, welcoming and safe environment.

The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham opened in 1891. The 700-seat auditorium is a fine example of the work of famous theatre designer Frank Matcham.
Initially called the Theatre Royal and Opera House, its name changed to the Everyman in the 1960s as a sign that it was a venue for everybody. In the mid twentieth century it was held in high regard for its seasons of repertory theatre. Today it is both a receiving and a producing house. Many shows that tour here are on the way to the West End or have recently come from the West End.
The programme is varied: high quality plays are presented alongside musical theatre and evenings of stand-up comedy. In addition, the theatre is made available twice a year to local operatic societies, who present popular musicals to large audiences. There are opportunities for youth theatre and summer school students to perform on the main stage. The intimate 50-seat Studio Theatre offers professional work that is a contrast to the shows being presented on the main stage. Often the companies that tour into the Studio are local; some are new and others are able to use the space for development weeks. The work tends to be contemporary and often issue-based. The Everyman produces its own small-scale shows in the Studio.
The Education and Community Department historically engages with over
14,000 members of communities each year. The current “Brain Project” is an umbrella title that brings together workshops and projects on Dementia, mental health, literacy, numeracy and disability. The department employs a number of freelance specialist practitioners to deliver its work.
Young people feature strongly: the Everyman runs youth theatre courses, summer schools, Arts Award projects and a BTEC course. Artist development is covered by Actors’ Lab (which has been running for over 15 years), Writers’ Lab and Practitioners’ Lab.
Outside of the theatre building itself, the Everyman organisation has recently been touring productions locally (often these start in the Studio Theatre) and nationally (starting on the main stage and then touring to similar sized venues throughout England). There is a policy to create a number of commissions and co-productions each year, which ensures that the Everyman has a national profile.

Studio 18 is a new and exciting arts warehouse project situated along the canal in Brimscombe and a 25 minute walk from the centre of Stroud.
The studio is a warehouse conversion encompassing three studios, space for shared studios and a flexible exhibition space.
At Studio 18 we have big plans for the future, including exhibitions, community projects and opportunities for young people.
Our main aim is to create a place where anyone can get involved in the arts and can find other like-minded people for collaboration, support and mentorship.
So far we have hosted several successful exhibitions and events, including the Studio 18 Taster Session in January 2019, the Open Exhibition in July and the 25 and Under show in September 2019. As part of the Open Exhibition we put an open call out to anyone, including groups such as the Nelson Trust, to submit work.
The 25 and Under show offered artists just starting out in their careers a chance to show their work in a professional setting and to be involved in the whole process including curation, installation and event organisation. This has already led to further opportunities for several of our young artists, including other exhibitions and a spin-off group who are working on projects involving the regeneration of outdoor urban spaces.
We have also begun a project with Thrupp Parish Council to revive the bus stops along the A419 in conjunction with local artists and schools, and to build a sense of community in Thrupp Parish.

The Goods Shed is an arts and entertainment centre found at the bottom of Gumstool Hill on the Tetbury Trail, a walkway which follows the old railway line.
We offer a wide range of events and activities for the people of Tetbury and its surrounding area - concerts, theatre, cinema, exhibitions, workshops, talks and classes. We have been building up our programme since 2016, hopefully overcoming the pandemic, aiming to be a thriving arts centre serving the Cotswolds.
We know that Gloucestershire has a diverse population, so we want to offer something for all; we know the county has a broad spectrum of arts and entertainment options, so we hope we can compliment them and add to the quality and also provide opportunities for local performers and artistes. In challenging times, we want to give our community something that will encourage involvement in the arts, promote new ideas, and deliver exciting artistic ambition.
