Bo Lanyon (b. Cornwall, UK) is a Bristol-based artist and doctoral researcher at UWE Bristol’s Centre for Print Research, where he is undertaking a practice-led PhD, ‘What Paint Can Be: Creative Solutions in an Age of Extraction’. His work engages with the evolving intersection of materiality and experience, merging classical and digital methods to create a hybrid aesthetic of timeless form and sci-fi allure. He holds an MA from the Royal College of Art, where he was selected as one of the first Saatchi Gallery & Channel 4’s New Sensations artists, and a BA from the University of Gloucestershire; exhibitions include Xxijra Hii, Saatchi Gallery, Spike Island, RWA Bristol, and KARST. Recent commissions include Avon (2024), a large-scale sculpture in bronze & wood for Legal & General; in 2020 he made the podcast ‘A St. Ives Legacy’, exploring the intergenerational impact of his grandfather, painter Peter Lanyon, who was championed by David Bowie. Lanyon has received awards from Arts Council England, West of England Visual Arts Alliance, and The Cornwall Workshop. Currently based at Spike Island, Bristol, his practice continues to explore the boundaries of painting, sculpture and art production in an increasingly digital world.
