Future Talent
2023. Supported by the University of Gloucestershire and the NHS Integrated Care Board.
Future Talent grew out of a series of micro-experiments we ran with the NHS in 2022 and 2023, building the infrastructure for neighbourhood-led arts and health. One question stood out: how do we nurture the talent already here, and open up careers in creative health to more people? With early funding, we brought partners together as the Future Talent steering group to find out.
The steering group set out to understand who gets to work in creative health in Gloucestershire, and how to make that workforce more diverse and better supported. Through creative labs, an online survey of 56 practitioners, focus groups and interviews with diverse artists, and a peer network event, it mapped the routes people take into the sector and the barriers facing those who are under-represented. In 2025 it published a report of findings and recommendations from clearer professional development and an accredited training route to a shared resource bank and an equity, diversity and inclusion group.
Project at a glance
We kickstarted this work and convened the partnership, bringing together organisations with decades of experience in creative health alongside diverse artists and practitioners. Working as equals, we designed, delivered and evaluated the research together, and set out practical steps for a fairer, better connected workforce. The work now continues through the steering group, and it feeds directly into our Create Talent and Create Health programmes.
