Since 2017, Create Gloucestershire’s Create Local programme has been growing creative and financial power in neighbourhoods, so that communities can lead their own development.

We’re sharing more of what we’ve learned through resources, toolkits and reports, to help anyone interested in community-owned arts and culture.

Through Create Local we’ve developed Creative Piggy Banks (or Sheepy Banks as some neighbourhoods have called them), a funding model that puts more financial power in the hands of communities. Each is a shared fund owned by no one, and available to the whole community. Partners including the NHS and local authorities invest in them to enable communities to lead on culture, creativity and wellbeing.

This visual guide sets out what we’ve learned about the essentials for making Creative Piggy Banks work, and how they sit alongside other kinds of community funding.
